This paper illustrates the crucial methodological bases for designing a corpus based on the Plautine comedies and offers some preliminary analyses and results. After a brief presentation of the tagset, I turn to the data and results of a preliminary analysis, clearly resting upon a corpus-based methodology. The case study presented here concerns the sociolinguistic distribution of Greek in the Plautine corpus. The corpus-based approach taken in this paper confirms earlier results found in the relevant literature, but also highlights some interesting exceptions to the tendencies observed, which will be discussed in detail
