There is no direct evidence of woodwork of antique roofs, and, in many cases, the state of conservation of the blocks in the upper parts of the buildings is incomplete. In these conditions, how is it possible today to analyse the woodwoork of Greek monumental roofs ? The objective of this article is to suggest avenues to be explored on the study and restitution of Greek wooden roof structures, focusing more specifically on the benefits of taking into account the technical environment on the one hand, and on their structural dimension on the other hand. Beforehand, a brief inventory of the historiographical situation will make it possible to situate the origins of the interpretative framework of ancient wooden roof structures, which is still in force, and to indicate their limits
