Bacchus is not one of the chief characters of the glyptics of Roman times. He appears in most cases in restful attitudes, alone or in the company of a silenius or a satyr, in the fine nudity of his youth. The personal links between the possessor of an intaglio and the represented deity are here imbued with a fine serenity
