The Aeneid holds a special place among the many stories built around the mythical origins of Rome, because of its influence on the literary and cultural life in the Augustan period and during the later reigns. But did the Virgilian epic had an influence on the iconography of heroic figures of the founders? We can provide some answers considering this corpus on a diachronic perspective and by evaluating the possible influence – or the absence of influence – of the texts about the Primordia Vrbis in general, and of the Aeneid especially, on figural representations
