The Cabrières copper mines over the last five millenia have gone through various degrees of fortune. The mining has left in the underground a greater or lesser impact according to the times, ancient minings being strikingly conspicuous for their magnitude (Pioch Farrus IV, La Roussignole). While in Mediefal times (XIII. c) only a few surface scratchings are known, prehistoric mines (neolithic and the Bronze Ages), far more numerous and of decametric size ocasionally (Vallarade), bear witness to intensive activity. The scope of the mining is in direct connection with the applied techniques at each period of time, with the yield of often narrow seams and the composition of the ores. The latter is fundamental for neolithic metallurgy but loses its interest in after times
