The author analyses the black-figure fragment of dinos, made by Sophilos in the first third of VI century BC and discovered in Pharsalus, Thessaly. This vase is not only important for its artistic value, but also because it is remarkable in the history of the black-figure pottery. This fragment is one of the first with the artist’s signature. Moreover, the representation of the Patroklus atla is interesting for the mythological iconography. Sophilos painted ikria, wooden grandstands usually set up in the places of Archaic Greeks towns. Then the author reviews literary and archaeological sources for these buildings
