Lutheran Domestic Devotion : Instructions, Images and Practices From the last third of the 17th century onwards, the process of « domestication » of religious life developed in Lutheran Germany. Theological discourse expressed a desire for the home to become a place of devotion as important as the church. The 16th century and 17th century were characterized by a massive production of devotional books for domestic use. Finally, collections of canticles and prayers published at the time underwent a change in form and content, indeed, they did not solely meet doctrinal and liturgical objectives and criteria any longer
