Though full-time provision remains dominant, part-time undergraduate student numbers have been increasing in both absolute and relative importance over the last 15 years, notably in the public sector institutions and through the development of the Open University. For the 1985/86 academic year 615 separate part-time first degree courses have been identified. These courses are examined in terms of the types of institutions offering them, their accreditation, timing, mode of provision, subject, entry and exit arrangements, and location. The current pattern of provision is shown to be biased towards certain locations, subjects and modes
