El presente artículo analiza el sesgo social en el uso del cuidado tanto formal como informal por distintos grupos de renta de los hogares en España. A partir de datos de la Encuesta de Condiciones de Vida proponemos un modelo estadístico que permite aislar el efecto de la ocupación de las madres en el uso del cuidado infantil. Analizamos el periodo 2006-2016 con el fin de averiguar el efecto coyuntural de la recesión económica de 2008. Los resultados muestran que el uso del cuidado formal está estratificado por renta. Aunque este sesgo en el acceso precede a la crisis económica, se agudiza durante los años de recesión. El cuidado informal aparece como un recurso complementario sobre todo para las familias de clase media y baja y en hogares con madres ocupadas a tiempo parcial
