Since his own studies which aimed at establishing relations between the stone quarries discovered and expoited throughout Antiquity, and the places where their produces were discovered, and which brought into evidence the trade routes connecting the Mediterranean to the northwest of the Roman Empire (fig. 1). François Braemer has been mostly concerned by the Roman province of Belgium, where recent surveys allowed him to include the Somme Valley into the Atlantic route he made out and to stress the presence of decorative elements originating in this province. He wishes that future excavations, in bringing evidence of the role and date of erection of each element in the discovered monuments, will make the specialists' interpretation easier and will yield precise data regarding the history of taste and the trading activities of the Roman province of Belgium
