J.-M. Regnault and P. Vermander, The iconoclastic crisis of 1566 in the Armentières region ; attempt of description and interpretation. In the springtime of 1566 in the Lys valley, Armentières is an important Calvinist centre. In August iconoclastic manifestations are vigorous. The minutes of the trials, kept in the "Archives Municipales d 'Armentières" enable us to draw a precise picture of the events and even to restore the words of the iconoclasts themselves. This movement appears, at least at the local level, as an action organized by pastors originating from the region. For the Calvinists this was a means of themselves in front of the Catholics
