Today almost all the vestiges due to the humans' presence in New Caledonia can be seen on display inprivate collections or city museums. They testify to days by gone and will undoubtedly be elements of cultural history that cannot be ignored. A lot has been done already about Kanak artifact and ancient illustrations but very little has been done about the artistic créations of the penal colony. These collection items can lead to a study of the perception of the Other and be a complementary or parallel approach to the written discourse. So the creation of a data bank that will make a full list of these collected items is badly needed
