How can the Hulu streamed dramatic series The Dropout make the Elizabeth Holmes story newly compelling in 2022? The spectacular rise and ignominious fall of Holmes and her health technology company Theranos has already been widely covered in multiple media in real time. How do the components of this particular television format function to elucidate or elide the historical context during which this exhaustively chronicled phenomenon occurred? Exuberant celebratory stories introducing Holmes as a female technology wunderkind began to appear in 2013 and 2014, coinciding with the company's peak valuation. Holmes seemed to be everywhere, in cover photos and stories in publications ranging from Fortune to Forbes to the New Yorker and Glamour. She appeared on Npr, Fox, Cnbc, Cnn, and Cbs news, and on Time's list of the one hundred most influential people in the world. In 2015 she was appointed by President Barack Obama as a U.S. ambassador for global entrepreneurship and invited to join Harvard Medical School's board of fellows. Obama's vice president, Joe Biden, visited Theranos as part of a health care innovation summit
