The Anti-Eviction Mapping Project (Aemp) describes itself as “a data-visualization, critical cartography, and multimedia storytelling collective documenting dispossession and resistance upon gentrifying landscapes.” The Aemp was created in San Francisco in 2013 in response to gentrification and displacement caused by Bay Area's “Tech Boom 2.0.” The project currently has three chapters—the original chapter based in San Francisco and ones in Los Angeles and New York City. The Aemp is made up of a dedicated cadre of volunteers that includes activist scholars, artists, organizers, students, tech workers, and local residents. Aemp projects often include a collaborating housing justice organization, and one page on the archive site lists over fifty partners. As an organization, the Aemp is horizontally structured and decisions are made by consensus.
