This essay aims to demonstrate that three methodological traits of German urban sociology\nof the 1990s and 2000s – i.e. traits that relate to the logical operations mobilized\nby recent urban reasearchers in German-speaking countries in order to explain\nempirically given sociospatial features of small, medium-sized or big German cities -\nparticularize German urban sociology amid analogous debates extant respectively in\ncontemporary Brazil (and Latin America in general), France and the Anglo-American\nworld within the context of a globalized economy. Therefore my starting point is\na specific anthropological perspective, a Brazilian point of view, given that my apprehension\nof the conceptual accounts of German urban sociology is underpinned by\na particular “comparative consciousness” (NADER, 1994, p. 89)
