"This special \nfeature showcases some of the key work efforts \nconducted under the umbrella of the NeWater \nproject. One major goal of NeWater has been the \ndevelopment of a conceptual and methodological \nframework for the transition of prevailing water management \nregimes to adaptive ones. Based on \nthis framework, specific approaches and tools have \nbeen further developed for practical applications in \na number of case studies in Europe (Elbe, Guadiana, \nRhine, and Tisza), in Central Asia (Amudarya), and \nin Africa (Nile and Orange). The emphasis of the \nwork reported in this special feature is on the \ndevelopment of conceptual foundations and \nmethodological innovations."
