Regional integration : political dimensions and parallel markets. In Africa it would be more appropriate to speak of deconstruction with regards to the state policies on regional cooperation as it has been practiced over the past 30 years. Today, in opposition to other regions of the world, the continent remains the most divided. The multiplication of informal exchanges on a continental basis constitutes a form of regional integration from the bottom which induces fears on the part of the state
