ALAN ABRAMOWITZ is the Alben W. Barkley Professor of Political Science at Emory University. He has authored or coauthored five books, dozens of contributions to edited volumes, and more than forty articles dealing with political parties, elections, and voting behavior in the United States. His newest book, The Disappearing Center: Engaged Citizens, Polarization and American Democracy, will be published in 2010 by Yale University Press. RUY TEIXEIRA is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress and co-director of their Progressive Studies Program. He is the editor of Red, Blue and Purple America: The Future of Election Demographics and co-author of The Emerging Democratic Majority
