Trata-se de analisar as apropriações da Lei de 7 de novembro de 1831 por curadores públicos nos processos de liberdade no Rio Grande do Sul, na segunda metade do século XIX, particularmente na defesa da liberdade de escravos que residiram temporariamente com seus senhores nos países do Prata e que, posteriormente, retornaram ao Império. Abstract We intend to analyze the appropriations of the 1831 Law by public prosecutors in the Legal Suits for Freedom in Rio Grande do Sul, in the second half of nineteenth century, particularly, when defending the freedom of slaves who had lived temporarily with their masters in the countries of the Platine Region and who had returned to the Brazilian Empire.
