This article tries to reconstruct the trajectory of a sugar plantation lord from Paraiba’s captaincy, Jorge Lopes Brandão, who, after the Dutch invasion, fought in the 30 years war. The main objective is to understand better the complex dialogue between the Sugar Society and the Habsburgo’s Universal Monarchy
