O trabalho problematiza o papel, ainda incipiente, da sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu para compreensão dos objetos analisados no campo de Relações Internacionais bem como de seu entendimento crítico como um campo social específico. O argumento central do artigo se divide em duas partes. Primeiro, aponta para contribuições da sociologia dos campos para uma historiografia crítica da formação do campo científico das Relações Internacionais. Em segundo lugar, demonstra como os objetos do campo, os fenômenos sobre o "internacional", podem ser apropriados pelas noções de Bourdieu. Para além de uma revisão de literatura de parte da obra de Bourdieu, realiza-se uma análise bibliográfica dos trabalhos de autores internacionalistas com o intuito de contribuir para os debates teóricos do campo
