Claudio Sartori (1913–1994) remains a unique figure within the history of musical heritage in the twentieth century. A musicologist, bibliographer, cataloguer, theatre critic, he demonstrated an unquestionable talent for writing. Sartori followed in the footsteps of other bibliographers—Eitner, Vogel, and Einstein in particular. His significant contributions to music bibliography include the Bibliografia delle opere musicali stampate da Ottaviano Petrucci (1948), and the Bibliografia della musica strumentale italiana stampata in Italia fino al 1700 (1952).
