Serge Clément An urban figure that should be invented : the ageing individual An isolated, dependent individual : such is the dominant image of an elderly person in the public mindset. With the general ageing of society, the categories are multiplying : the dynamic, recently retired person is replacing the image of the housebound handicapped individual, the activity of one group contrasting with the passivity of the other. The ageing individual, however, can assume the role of creating a positive transition from the past to the future by passing on his experience and memories
