Squatters and Beavers ; Christine Brisset's action in Angers (1946-1962) The imprint of Christine Brisset's personality on the squatter and beaver mouvements in Angers has given them a particularly interesting and efficient character : two thousand homes built, plus social services, facilities and amenities. Far from being a temporary marginal response to post war «emergencies», the cooperative founded by the beavers became locally reknowned for its technical and social innovation. They anticipated the evolution of standards of comfort in working class homes, without losing sight of their initial target : the accession to ownership at the same price as a rent, and without personal down payment. The extent of her success in organising the different social groups in solidarity management and her refusal of the administrative procedures in the setting up of the council house stock became increasingly disturbing not only for the local ruling classes, but also for the people themselves. Christine was excluded in 1962
