The original concept of a Parent-Teen Program came from a group of parents who were participating in a Parent Education Program of the Human Resources Office. Their concern about communicating with their teenagers on such issues as dating, friends, and clothing led to their recommendations for a program that would involve both parents and teenagers. The Parent-Teen Program was established and had as its primary goal improvement of communication between parents and their adolescent children. Although most families referred to the program would have exhibited some type of dysfunction that brought them to the attention of the referring agency, it was not the purpose of the program to directly deal with and attempt to resolve the present behavioral problems.
