This paper provides guidelines for a mental health consultant e.g. social worker psychologists psychiatrist or public health nurse in providing sex education consultation in his community. A case example of consultation to a birth control clinics reaching-out program is presented. It suggests that clinical understanding of attitudes and group processes can be helpful to those providing sex education. While mental health professionals must also direct their attention to helping girls cope with the crisis of illegitimate pregnancies it is sex education which appears to have the greatest leverage on the entire problem of illegitimacy that is alleviating the most stress for the amount of professional effort expended.
