Implications of Feminist and Humanistic values for marriage are conceptualized in terms of the salient psychological dimensions in marital interaction. Their effects on therapist orientation and definitions of the viable marriage are discussed, together with proposed alternatives in marital intervention. It is concluded that while changes in the marital relationship with changing needs and values can be accomodated by existing definitions of the good marriage, specific value orientations and standards of positive mental health could provide therapists and clients with definite direction. In evaluating relative outcome of different therapy approaches, researchers should take into consideration such value choices by employing multiple criterion measures
