and the effects of cultural changes, socio-economic class, age, and sex were analyzed. Conflicts between future plans and actual life chances of these students and the consequences of this conflict for the individual were considered. Finally, social reforms which are needed to keep up with the trends in values and expectations of lower class youth were discussed. All members of American society at present experience rapid economic, social, and cultural change. The members of the lower socio-economic class and of minority groups expecially are subjected to nearly revolutionary modifications of their style of living, their aspirations, and their methods of coping with the society. Attitudes and expectations concerning marriage and education are very deeply influenced by these changes. Continuous study of the appearing trends is necessary to provide the information needed for social planning. Attempts to investigate those changes have been made in regard to marriage plans by Hill (1945), McGinnis (1958), and Hudson and Henze. (1969) The educational aspirations of lower social class juveniles were recently studied by Krauss (1964) and Brodie and Suchman. (1968) As longitudinal studies of such populations seldom exist in the literature, cross sectional comparisons of samples studied at various times have to be made.
