Rickey Laurentus Stung Split empty, drilled, filled not just with grief but an urge for it, a calm simple mouth: look what a thing I've become. But when it happened, when the tearing firstlanded, was a happiness that seized me: little conqueror, colonizer .. .When it happened, when those arrows showered down, was a knowledge sated me: pleasure-knowledge, knowing I could fit— would fitin all that blood. Forgive me this one obsession: it was rough, raining that first night we met. I thought every drop striking the scene contained a world, and in it I was a victory, your unloosed field ... You touched me (pleasure-knowledge); said I made you hard (knowledge-pain). I let. I opened. My body less a body, more the wounds I found blooming in its flesh, each its own gentle sainthood, a readiness for death. FeministStudies38, no. 2 (Summer 2012). © 2012 by Feminist Studies, Inc. 484
