En el presente artículo abordamos la definición de un espacio útil para el estudio y el debate en torno a la sociedad civil. Para ello, planteamos las cuestiones que quedan abiertas en las teorías clásicas y proponemos como respuesta el uso de la teoría de campos de Pierre Bourdieu como medio de construir un entorno donde las distintas teorías puedan ser puestas en relación. Esta aproximación resulta útil porque sirve para unir muchas de las divergencias (como la diferencia entre macrosociológico y microsociológico), así como para poner en relación de un modo más nítido varios de los elementos que otras teorías habían manejado de manera ambigua
