Une etude ethno-archeologique menee aupres de potieres espagnoles a permis de cerner les difficultes d'ordre moteur et conceptuel intervenant lors du passage de l'elaboration au tour (mise en forme au tour d'une ebauche montee a la main) au veritable tournage sur motte. D'apres nos resultats, etablis grâce a une methodologie issue de la psychologie experimentale, ce passage implique des changements radicaux pour l'artisan qui doit abandonner certains automatismes, acquerir de nouvelles habiletes et une nouvelle representation mentale de son travail. De ce point de vue, l'adoption du tournage sur motte par des potiers pratiquant deja l'elaboration au tour signale une rupture technique et par consequent un changement contextuel suffisamment important pour susciter une modification des pratiques traditionnelles
