Les printemps arabes ont remis sur le devant de la scène une vieille interrogation des théories de l'action collective : la répression stimule-t-elle ou annihile-t-elle la mobilisation ? Cet article se propose de dresser un bilan des savoirs sur la question et, au-delà, de proposer quelques pistes de recherche afin de dépasser certaines apories théoriques et méthodologiques. L'article s'attelle à la tâche de comprendre les effets de causalités entre mobilisations protestataires et répression, et ce, dans une perspective macro-sociologique et dynamique. Les auteurs proposent de placer la focale de l'analyse à l'échelle méso et micro : celle des organisations militantes et des carrières militantes individuelles
