This research was carried out in a hospital toy library and aimed to reflect on how playing is constituted by hospitalized children and their relationships with time, accompanying adults and other hospitalized children. To this end, observations were carried out and recorded in a field diary as a form of data collection for a period of 4 weeks. We found that the moments of play were enjoyed by both the children and their companions in order to break with the hospital routine, in a movement of surrender to the time lived. It was found that playing allowed an opening, even if momentary, in which the children talked about their clinical conditions and were perhaps able to better understand the context in which they are inserted
