L'A. propose une description du concept de causalite finale developpe par Peirce et montre dans quelle mesure ce concept permet de mieux comprendre les notions de cause finale, d'activite determinee et orientee vers un objectif, de conception, de teleologie, de finalite et de teleonomie qui sont largement utilisees en biologie sans etre clairement definies. En se basant sur l'hypothese d'Emmeche selon laquelle l'organisme est un signe complexe, donc le signe lui-meme est un organisme, l'A. tente d'appuyer le point de vue d'Emmeche selon lequel le signe, et plus generalement la semiosis et les processus du signe, representent une forme de teleologie
