Livestock Trypanosomiasis and Human Settlement in Northeastern Uganda

IN LARGE parts of Africa south of the Sahara the spread and density of population are restricted by trypanosomiasis. Both human beings and their domestic livestock can be afflicted by this disease, and in both cases human settlement is affected. In East Africa livestock trypanosomiasis infests much of the potential grazing country-more than half of the total area of Tanganyika, a third of Uganda, and a quarter of Kenya. This paper treats the impact of the disease on one cattle-keeping tribe and that tribe's adjustment to the problem during three decades
