Mexican immigration to the United States, the most persistent social constant in the history of the relationship between the two nation-states, has been viewed from the Mexican perspective as a relationship predominantly if not almost exclusively labor/economic-based.1 From this perspective, it is difficult to recognize a more diverse and deeply rooted reality and even more difficult to understand the reality within which Mexicans in the United States live
