Reexamination of the incised blade in the Metropolitan Museum of Art known as the Lasithi dagger indicates that, on the basis of its type, its silver-plated rivet, and incised decoration, it is most probably a Cretan product of the LM IB-IIIA periods. The unusual motif of fighting bulls is Egyptian, and its pairing with a hunting scene recurs on an Egyptian archery case in the British Museum dated 1650-1550 B.C. It is concluded that the decoration of the dagger reflects contact with Egypt as well as the Greek mainland. Instead of being a prototype for the inlaid daggers found on the Greek mainland, the dagger may be a provincial imitation of them by a craftsman unacquainted with their technique
