Several errors of zoological classification are discussed for representations of mammals and birds among the objects from the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun on display in various cities of the United States during 1977-1979. Specifically: 1) the "ostriches" from the base of the ostrich feather fan are identified as a species of large bustard; 2) the statue of the "bleating ibex" is a composite of Nubian ibex and dorcas gazelle, with emphasis on the latter, and the horn on this statue, widely proclaimed to be a natural horn of an ibex, is carved from wood; 3) the "recumbent ibex" on the side-panel of the child's chair is an oryx; 4) the "leopard's skin" on the model folding stool is probably not identifiable as to the animal in the artist's mind; 5) the birds' heads forming the bases of the legs of the model folding stool were most probably modelled after heads of the Egyptian goose
