Poe" s X-ing a paragrab and Perec la Disparition can be compared : they both include grammatic and narrative exchanges. In la Disparition an enigma is the plot. Death and Loss the main themes. The narrative structure has to symbolize the missing letter. This is very close to Poe' s theory of « circumscription ». In X' ing a paragrab the operation of substitution occurs at both typographic and meta-narrative levels, with a particular « auto-parody ». Lipogrammatic text representation and meta-representation are deeply involved with the missing or the shown letter
