Yves Tissot : The kidnapping of Denys of Alexandria and the chronology of his festal letters. In his Ecclesiastical History, Eusebius quotes two passages from the festal letters of Denys of Alexandria, where the latter relates being abducted to Taposyris by peasants. At first, he sets the event in the time of the persecution of Decius (VI 40, letter to Germanius), but later in the period of Valerian (VII 11, letter to Dometius and Didymus). The analysis of these passages shows that, contrary the communis opinio, the abduction happened under Valerian. This permits us to date the second letter to the year 259 and all of Denys' festal letters between that year and 262, thereby preserving them in the order in which they are mentioned by Eusebius
