Palabras clave: práctica escritural, mujeres, Río dela Plata, coloniaEntreaties and Petitions from the Margin: RevisingThree Colonial TestimoniesAbstract: The purpose of this article is to analyzethree texts through the thorough reading of unpublishedletters, all written by women, currently located at theArchivo General de Indias in Seville and sent from theRio de la Plata during the XVI and XVII centuries. As afirst step, I intend to demonstrate how the female authorsused the writing of such documents as an empoweringpractice; secondly, I maintain that these letters provide aspace for the emergence of the authors’ identity. In otherwords, I understand and ground the conclusions of thiswork on the fact that space culturally shapes gender, butthat gender acts in the production of such spaces as well. The participation of female authors by means of theseletters merges them with that spatiality in a process bothof production and reproduction, since, as a consciencebuildingact to express their discontent with the colonialsystem.
