Skull features and particularly mandibular traits have been proposed (Loth, Henneberg, 2001a) as reliable indicators for sex determination in children. In this note, these traits were tested on a reference sample of known age and sex, housed in the Museum of Human Anatomy of the University of Torino. The results are not as reliable as those proposed by the authors of the method and the biological characteristics of the samples could be involved in the differences between results
