Diana Spearman's role and influence within the post-war Conservative Party have been overlooked, as the major studies on this party, but a few, mention her name. Yet, after graduating from the LSE, she contested two general elections in Labour strongholds, she worked in the male-dominated Conservative Research Department (CRD) after the war for quite a long time, was among the very few female members of the international Mont-Pélerin Society, founded and chaired a short-lived group comprising only male free-market economists or Conservatives in 1965, and was a regular contributor to the Salisbury Review in the 1980s. She exerted a tremendous influence on Enoch Powell and Richard Law in the late 1940s, as the latter published Return from Utopia in 1950—a digest of Sperman's and Hayek's ideas. According to Powell, she was ‘an outstanding and tireless philosopher of Conservatism’
