Baptandier-Berthier, Brigitte - "Loyang bridge. On words, men and Gods". Two puns which appear in a mythologie episode in Fujian will be analysed. The first one relies on the name of a character: playing on homophony, on a rupture between writing and speaking, ambiguity of the symbolic value of the name, playing on various speech registers. As a whole, it is part of a kind of ritual setting up a messenger/substitute, whose identity is put in question. The other one is a divination rebus, an example of glyphomancy, playing on an analysis of written characters which relies upon some Chinese cosmological representations. They both show an aspect of the relationship between the State bureaucratic organisation and the cult communities of folk religion
