Alice Hutchins became a painter in 1957, discovered magnets as an artistic material in early 1967, and later that year encountered Fluxus for the first time, an affiliation that persisted, as did her work with magnets until her death on 25 October 2009 at the age of 92. In this article, author Kathy O’Dell explores Hutchins's work in relation to Fluxus, feminism, performance, and the magnetic field, pointing out how aspects of each of these entities illuminates others through processes of play
