The Catholic Church, through the Vatican or via various movements of exclusivist nature, has tended to a more traditional form of faith affirmation in recent years, so as to recover theologies, doctrines and mores that may voice faith pithily in face of the increasingly plural religious field. This emphasizing Catholic doctrines movement – sometimes in an uncompromising or not so dialogic form – represents an increasingly conservative side of Catholicism, showing the Catholic Church as the only and utmost owner of the religious truth. This article aims to reflect on such stance by resorting to social sciences (social sciences analyze Catholicism through sociological and anthropological literature), and, at the end, by questioning if any kind of exclusivism is essential to the Catholic identity. Conclusion: exclusivisms end up expressing their paradox of being versions in the plurality of interpretations
