The article analyzes the family memory of the defeats during the Second Punic War. The study focuses on roman aristocracy and relationships between father and son. An interest will be raised with the analysis of the aristocratic culture. The defeats show a code of honor. It’s necessary to show uirtus while dying in the service of the res publica. The defeats highlight the defense of the homeland. Attention is also paid to filial pietas, when Scipio (Africanus) saves his father at the battle of Ticino. This example highlights divergent traditions. Finally, the defeats upset the natural order and the family values
