In 1892 México attended the Historical American Exhibition of Madrid with a proposal that included a collection of 768 photographic objects. This article depicts the research conducted with these materials to address the country ́'s presence and representation in the exhibition. It unfolds ways of approaching these pictures, emphasizing its context as a group and the links with other sources of information, and how they are built as a visual and written corpus which functions to inquire the outlook of the country that Mexico intended to expose
