The historicity of the Portuguese-language pathway as a symbolic object is not always visible. Portuguese, like all languages, exists in relation to other languages, and it is precisely this aspect that the term "Lusofonia" insists on silencing in multilingual countries, especially when it involves the long historical route that ranges from colonization to independence movements. The objective of this article is to present a set of linguistic and historical reflections on the Portuguese language in Mozambique. KEYWORDS: multilingual countries, historicity, Mozambique
