V.Y. Mudimbe’s theoretical works can be interpreted as a poetics of divergence. The aim of this essay is to find out which path Mudimbe is proposing to Africans to free themselves from the system of thought that rivets Africa to the West and to create a new discourse that goes beyond the pretensions of ethnology
